The W.H. and Peggy Smith Baylor-Sammons Breast Center
As the hub for breast care within the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center, the W.H. and Peggy Smith Baylor-Sammons Breast Center is one place where our pioneering spirit truly stands out. Here physicians and staff help improve the quality of life for patients with breast cancer and other breast health concerns. Notable areas of focus include:
- The lymphedema program, which offers prevention and treatment options for patients with swelling of the arms and legs due to an accumulation of lymphatic fluid.
- Breast health education programs, free of charge to the community, as well as self-examination training and other educational tools. "Breast Care for a Lifetime" is a community program available at no charge that includes breast cancer statistics and risk factors, breast self-exam (BSE) instruction, mammogram and screening guidelines, prevention research, lifestyle factors, and computerized breast cancer risk assessment.
- Breast cancer risk assessment, a free program that uses a computerized model to calculate a woman's risk of developing breast cancer.
- Hereditary Cancer-Risk Program
- Breast cancer prevention research, including an ongoing project aimed at helping high-risk women.
- Ductal lavage for women at high risk to check for the presence of pre-cancerous cells in the breast.
- Benign breast disease services for breast health concerns that are not related to breast cancer, including fibrocystic changes or breast pain.
The W.H. and Peggy Smith Baylor-Sammons Breast Center is located at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.
