Baylor Specialty Hospital

When you have a medical condition that requires intensive medical management and nursing care, Baylor Specialty Hospital is here for you. With three locations, one on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, one at Baylor Medical Center at Irving and one at Baylor Medical Center at Garland, the staff members of Baylor Specialty Hospital strive to help improve your condition to the level of function that allows you to return home as quickly as possible.

From cardiac management, stroke recovery and wound care to pulmonary care and other medically complex issues, our acutely ill patients receive the focused attention of an experienced team of trained specialists who offer coordinated treatment in a setting that allows proper time for recovery. They're supported by advanced medical technology designed specifically for such complex cases.

A team of physicians on our medical staff, nurses and other medical professionals is assigned to each patient. This multidisciplinary care team creates a specialized treatment program to help you recover. Depending on your condition, your team could consist of a primary care physician, consulting physicians, physiatrist, registered nurses, enterostomal nurses, certified chemotherapy nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, therapeutic recreation specialists, clinical dieticians, discharge planners and chaplains if appropriate.

To determine if you are an appropriate candidate for Baylor Specialty Hospital, a medical assessment is performed by a nurse evaluator, either on site or via telephone with your physician. The evaluator will then confer with physicians, discharge planners, insurance case managers and family members to arrange a timely transfer if appropriate.
