Chemical Dependency

Chemical dependency is an illness that can be successfully treated in a supportive therapeutic environment, where individuals can develop self-responsibility and peer support while abstaining from the use of mind-altering chemicals. Treatment focuses on educating the individual and their families about chemical dependency, building coping skills to prevent relapse, and incorporates the 12-step principles of recovery. The interdisciplinary treatment team, under the direction of an attending physician, establishes an individualized treatment plan with the patient and family, which identifies current problems and goals for treatment that can lay the groundwork for long-term recovery.

Baylor offers a wide variety of chemical dependency programs to fit your needs.

Our chemical dependency programs are designed to serve adults, 18 and older, with a primary diagnosis of chemical dependency. Individuals requiring medically supervised detoxification from alcohol or drugs will begin the recovery process on the inpatient behavioral health unit, which is designed to provide a highly structured, therapeutic treatment milieu, as well as 24-hour nursing care. If inpatient treatment is not necessary in order to safely complete the withdrawal process, an individual may be admitted to one of Baylor's outpatient chemical dependency programs.
