Heart and Vascular Scans

A computerized tomography (CT) scan is one of the best ways to examine soft tissues in the heart and lungs and can help physicians identify abnormalities in the structure or position of the heart, lungs, or blood vessels. Physicians can diagnose lung problems such as bronchiectasis (abnormal destruction and widening of the large airways), the stage of some lung tumors or esophageal cancer, aortic aneurysm (thoracic), pneumonia, and more. And a heart scan can detect calcium or measure the buildup of plaque and even evaluate blood flow in the coronary arteries.
