Stroke

As one of America's leading medical centers, Baylor and its Neuroscience Center have attracted some of the top physicians in their fields. This enables us to provide medical care in a variety of specialty areas.

Stroke management, in particular, garners intense focus at Baylor. Physicians on the medical staff at Baylor are leading the way in increasing public awareness of stroke symptoms and the need to get help in the critical first three hours, when treatment options are better. These options include tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), an intravenous treatment given to ischemic stroke victims. Another is urokinase or pro-urokinase, given via arteriogram, which can be effective for up to six hours after a stroke.
