Ankle Care at Baylor
The ankle represents one of the most mechanically stressed regions of the human anatomy and can be injured in activities that involve jumping or quick direction changes such as basketball, soccer, football or dance. The ankle, a complex mechanism made up of two joints, is one of the major focuses of Baylors orthopaedic research.
Degenerative arthritis poses a previously unresolved problem that can now be combated through new surgical procedures including total joint replacement of the ankle. New devices and a new surgical procedure for total ankles are being pioneered at Baylor and studied in the lab.
Baylor physicians offer a wide range of diagnostic and treatment options for patients suffering from an ankle injury or conditions such as arthritis in the ankle joints.
Rehabilitation of ankle injuries can usually be done on an outpatient basis. The Baylor Rehabilitation System offers several locations so patients can continue their recovery close to work or home.
