Orthopaedic Patient Stories
Joan Moulder
Comprehensive patient support helped Joan Moulder choose Baylor for hip replacement surgery. Complications from cancer treatment resulted in a degenerated hip joint and so much pain she couldnt stand. Baylors orthopaedic specialists in cancer-related joint problems helped ease her apprehensions about yet another medical treatment. Getting this done was like a miracle, really, she says. The pain just to walk was terrific. When you think about all the good things that happen in your life, this was one of the best for me.
Gwen Whitehead
While still in high school, Gwen Whitehead already faced knee replacement surgery due to chronic arthritis. The surgery allowed her to remain on her schools drill team, but in the following years, the pain grew so great it threatened to put her in a wheelchair. She knew that was not an option for her and eventually had replacement surgeries on both hips and both shoulders as well. My family calls me a fighter, says Gwen. I refused to give in. I know the fear of surgery but I believe youve got to have faith and the people who helped me through the program at Baylor were great.
