Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Baylor is designed with the special needs of your family in mind. Board certified Neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners, doctors and nurses specially trained to take care of small infants will oversee your baby's care 24 hours a day. These clinicians are supported by trained professionals (nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists) who have the advanced clinical skills required to care for your baby.

Family-centered care is our priority in the NICU. For your convenience and comfort, we offer:
  • Flexible visiting hours for parents
  • Kangaroo care, or skin-to-skin contact
  • Lactation consultants
  • Family care coordinators
  • Sleeper chairs and showers
  • Comprehensive discharge planning and coordination
In addition to our advanced equipment to treat newborns, we have specialized educational pamphlets and dedicated staff to help you understand their baby's unique health needs.

Before taking your baby home, we invite you to spend a night with your baby in a special room on our unit. There, you will care for your baby and be able to call on our staff if you need them. Some infants graduate to TINY TOTS.
