Organ Transplants at Baylor
Over more than 20 years, the programs of Baylor Regional Transplant Institute (BRTI) have resulted in 8,000 transplants. The Baylor Regional Transplant Institute is the integration of transplant services at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas and Baylor All Saints Medical Center. Together, Baylor Dallas and Baylor All Saints are one of the largest multi-specialty transplant centers in the country.
Baylor Dallas offers comprehensive transplant services and treatments for
blood and marrow,
heart and lung,
kidney and pancreas,
liver,
islet cell and
small bowel transplant patients. Baylor Dallas is one of the largest adult transplant centers in the country, serving patients from North Texas and around the world.
Baylor All Saints provides complete
liver and
kidney transplant services. All facets of the Baylor All Saints liver and kidney transplant program are modeled after the Baylor Dallas program and both share an open exchange of highly trained transplant surgeons, physicians and multidisciplinary staff.
Among our many “
transplant firsts,” Baylor pioneered the Southwest’s first liver transplant program and performed the first adult liver transplant, as well as the state’s first matched, unrelated donor bone marrow transplant.
Baylor Regional Transplant Institute also works to develop more ways to manage organ disease. The medical staff includes world-renowned experts in hepatitis B and hepatitis C management. Pioneering procedures including islet cell transplantation are being performed and Baylor Dallas offers the only certified islet cell processing lab of its kind in the Southwest. Patients with cardiac failure have also seen an increase in services and therapies, including left ventricular assist devices that may bridge the gap to transplantation, if not eliminate the need for it completely.
