Small Bowel Transplants at Baylor

In 2006, Baylor added a small bowel transplant program to its services for patients with intestinal failure. This rare transplant procedure may be a treatment options for intestinal failure due to short-gut syndrome caused by massive bowel resection, volvulus, gastroschisis, trauma, necrotizing enterocolitis, ischemia, and Crohn’s disease, among others.
