Robert R. Michalski joined Baylor Health Care System (BHCS) in April 2009 as vice president and chief compliance officer. He also serves as the BHCS privacy officer and is certified in health care compliance and health care privacy compliance. Michalski is responsible for developing, implementing and enforcing guidelines that promote compliance with the law, ethics and established policies within the health system. His goal is to create an environment that provides education regarding the expected standards of conduct, encourage reporting of potential matters of noncompliance and detect issues of noncompliance that may not have been reported.
Prior to his role at Baylor, Michalski served as vice president and chief compliance officer for West Penn Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh, Pa., for nine years. His prior experience also included serving as director of patient financial services for Allegheny General Hospital Parent (Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation) and as a senior consultant with Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Michalski received a bachelor of science degree in microbiology and a master of health administration degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned Faculty Awards for Distinguished Academic Performance and for Outstanding Performance on the Comprehensive Examination.
Michalski is currently the vice chair for the Association of Healthcare Internal Auditors and co-chair of the Healthcare Compliance Council Exchange in North Texas and is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Financial Management Association and Health Ethics Trust.
