Whether in a class or one-on-one setting, successful results are often affected by one's trust and comfort level in the person that is treating them. That is why it is important to us to allow you to get to know our team of certified diabetes educators before coming in for diabetes self-management counseling. We hope the introductions below to the staff at the Ruth Collins Diabetes Center at Baylor Dallas will give you a better understanding of what we're all about and we look forward to meeting you in return!
Pat, R.N., B.S.N., C.D.E, began her career as a nurse at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. After graduating from El Centro College with an associate degree in Nursing, she pursued a bachelor of science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating in 1991. She developed a passion for diabetes while working
in Pediatrics at Parkland and after her mother developed Type 2 diabetes. Pat has been a Certified Diabetes Educator since 1999. She joined Baylor University Medical Center in 2003 as the Outpatient Diabetes Educator. She is the Parish Nurse at her church where she provides diabetes education and other health information to the congregation and community. Pat’s goal is not only to focus on managing diabetes after diagnosis, but to educate the community on prevention. Pat is also a volunteer for American Diabetes Association.
Kimberly, R.D., L.D., C.D.E. is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Florida State University, Kim went on to Armstrong Atlantic State University to gain a master's degree in Health Science. Shortly after becoming a certified diabetes educator in 1996, Kim began working at the Ruth Collins Diabetes Center at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. Kim has a passion for teaching people how to better manage their diabetes and specializes in gestational diabetes and medical nutrition therapy.
Karen, R.N., C.D.E., received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing at both Florida Southern University and the University of North Florida. For the past 12 years, she has been a full time diabetes educator and has obtained a Certification in Diabetes Education. Her career with Ruth Collins Diabetes Center at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas has provided her experience in diabetes patient education through the outpatient center and liver transplant diabetes education. She is currently the diabetes educator for patients referred from Med Provider physicians on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas as well as the educator for liver transplant patients. In her free time, Karen enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, boating and painting.
