Common Sleep Disorders 

Sleep deprivation or insufficient sleep can have behavioral consequences such as depression, irritability, mood swings, anxiety, and insomnia.  Physical manifestations may also include lower threshold for pain leading to symptoms of pain syndrome and even fibromyalgia.

Common Sleep Disorders include:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome
  • Central sleep apnea syndrome commonly associated with congestive heart failure
  • Nocturnal hypoventilation due to neuromuscular disorders
  • Narcolepsy with or without cataplexy
  • Movement disorders such as periodic limb movement or restless leg syndrome
  • REM behavior commonly associated with neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease
