Emergency Care

Prepared for the Unexpected

You never know when an emergency will arise. But when it does, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center McKinney is here to provide urgent medical care—24 hours a day, seven days a week.

From minor injuries to stroke, heart attack and other life-threatening conditions, the emergency medicine specialists on our medical staff have the tools and technology you need to heal.

To provide our community with even more comprehensive emergency services, we have enhanced our capabilities and increased the size of our facilities. We have added 12 beds to the department – doubling the existing space – and 48 inpatient beds on the fifth floor. We have also received Chest Pain Center Accreditation, which recognizes our advanced expertise in treating patients experiencing heart attack.

In Case of Emergency

The American College of Emergency Physicians offers these helpful guidelines for when to seek emergency care:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Fainting, loss of consciousness, sudden dizziness
  • Weakness (particularly on one side of the body)
  • Changes in vision
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Confusion or changes in mental status
  • Any sudden or severe pain, particularly unusual abdominal pain
  • A high fever that’s not getting better or is escalating
  • A traumatic injury such as a broken bone or penetrating wound
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea

Depending on the symptoms, you may also want to seek emergency care for severe asthma attacks and allergic reactions to food, medication or an insect bite or sting.
